insomnia

i have to wake up in fucking less than five hours and cannot get to sleep.  damn.

i determined a few things tonight during my therapy session.  1) i should probably take another look at american beauty (didn't like it all that much the first time i saw it, but i was thinking about it recently & also am really intrigued by what i've seen of 6 feet under); 2)  i figured out why they call it "salon.com."  i never really got computer culture until recently (my mac laptop is really the only good computer i've ever used outside of the office).  buzznet got me thinking of the algonquin roundtable of late.  blogging: like an intellectual "salon!"  (doh!); 3) along those lines: making friends or deepening relationships through media like this has me thinking of videodrome again: vr, the "virtual"--long live the new flesh...the trick is to integrate the two, i guess, if that makes any sense (i certainly have been frustrated with much about life 'round here, outside of this virtual space,  for a while, and need to do something about it, to integrate the best of what comes here, into the experience of what goes on, out there!).

i won't discuss transference in my therapeutic relationship, though... save that for the sopranos.

six feet under is overrated. but so far I have yet to meet anyone who agrees with me.

I agree with you djmark

thanks NSR. I thought it would be a lot stranger, more of a twin peaks. alas it's basically a funeral director soap opera. not horrible, just ok.
northshorerain: 12/03/2005 11:40 AM
yeah its not horrible... I mean, I watch it if I cant find anything else ... but it does have a bit of a yawn factor
freakpowertix: 12/03/2005 3:22 PM
i've only seen bits...i guess i like it in terms of the concept, 'cause i haven't seen that much of it.

twin peaks, now... you're not too, too far from where they did locations, now, are you, ms. nsr? god, the pacific northwest is so damn intense.
northshorerain: 12/03/2005 3:29 PM
yes it is....it is such an extreme environment here ...everything is over sized it seems. The trees , the mountains , rain ....it is just so dense . Its hard to find any big open spaces. Its beautiful though - for sure.
As far as the show goes ...I just wish they would have pushed the envelope a little more ... because I really think there is room for that in this type of show.
djmark: 12/03/2005 3:35 PM
yeah totally, it has the potential to be a great weird show and it does have some interesting moments, but doesn't deliver. plus i gotta say I don't like a lot of the characters and actors.

o.k. peeps...nsr has no profile facts & since The OC doesn't count djM (however much i actually enjoyed watching *that* show its 1st yr), i'm wondering if y'all are into any serial dramas out there...twin peaks was such a blast because there are so many possibilities for that artistic form and it reached a sort lynchian sublimity through it all...but it ended so early. so: any recommendations?

Gilmore Girls has some of the best writing on regular tv. quick, witty loaded with super quick pop culture bits and obscure music references. start at the beginning.

the writing in entourage actually seemed pretty good, but i view it as more of a comedy than a serial drama ... actually, come to think of it, nip/tuck seems like a comedy too ....

so *whoops*
freakpowertix: 12/04/2005 11:30 AM
comedy always gets ghettoized, so i don't mean to be generically limited (e.g., comedians -- people like peter sellers -- rarely get oscar nominations, much less win them). i esp. think satire can be as powerful as any f-ing drama... thx!

the office the is one of the best ever comedy, drama or reality whichever one it is. I'm taliking the original british one not the shite american version
northshorerain: 12/04/2005 11:40 AM
yeah yeah the office .... not the shite american version . So many good british series... The Vicor of Dibley was also good
Total: 23 1 2
