i noticed a couple of articles (or 3) this past week about the assassination of ernesto "che" guevara. one was in the ucsb student rag, the daily nexus. the other 2 (new york times & the l.a. times too?) zeroed in on his cult of personality as well.
the thing for me about the nexus opinion's page piece, which, not surprisingly, scolded young americans for romanticizing che, is that it was totally oblivious to his legend internationally -- but especially in latin america -- where it is in no way possible to dismiss his impact as some sort of fad. if i had the time, i'd do some research myself & write a response to that fool: but robert scheer does a good enough job of debunking the debunkers here...
a fitting tribute to a 60-year-old santa barbara institution from santa barbara's news & arts weekly. published on a weekend i was away from the area, so i'm glad i got to run into online...
jimmy's will be missed. sorely. its loss is actually one reason i started eyeing a move away from downtown santa barbara, in fact. i cannot stand to see the further los angelesization of this once-funky beach community at such close range... :(

yes...the baseball team shrouded in barry bonds' steroid controversy. i grew up with 'em. have never won a world series during the team's decades in san francisco... i still have left my ♥ there!
