'Zombie McCain' & My "World Zombie Day" Broadcast of The Freak Power Ticket radio program (from Monday, Oct. 20, 2008)
For those of you who may have forgotten, or who stumble upon this page for the first time, my radio show, "The Freak Power Ticket", is a music and cultural arts program on KCSB 91.9 FM in Santa Barbara. My World Zombie Day broadcast (which aired on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008) was a sort of audio collage featuring theme music, movie clips and trailers, political news items, and snippets from an interview I conducted with zombie-film maestro George A. Romero about the social relevance of his "living dead" film series. This edition pays tribute to the recent World Zombie Day (Oct. 26, 2008) and attempts to confront (and perhaps even heal?) the malign forces that have infected the body politic in recent years, and months...
Reverend Billy, of the Church of Stop Shopping, asks if we are in the 'last days' of the "Shopocalypse." Romero basically posited that same question nearly 30 years ago with the release of his second zombie masterpiece, "Dawn of the Dead." The recent political season demands that we take the possibility with deadly seriousness.
