"the shock doctrine," a documentary short by naomi klein, alfonso cuarón, & jonás cuarón (2007)

journalist & author naomi klein (no logo) will be in santa barbara next saturday night, at 8pm at the victoria hall theater (33 west victoria street), to speak about her new book, the shock doctrine: the rise of disaster capitalism.

to illustrate klein's powerful thesis, mexican filmmakers alfonso & jonás cuarón (children of men) produced this short documentary. according to the internet movie database, the works "[d]raw... surprising connections between market methods and CIA torture techniques developed in the 1950s, explor[ing] how well-known events of the recent past have been theaters for the shock doctrine, from Pinochet's coup in Chile, to the Tiananmen Square Massacre, to the war in Iraq today."

This is a very interesting line of research Ted, thank-you for being so well informed, ad for informing others (such as me).

Klein's "No Logo" was OK, but I reckon "False Dawn: The Delusions of Global Capitalism" by John Gray is better.
